Technology will have a major role throughout the implementation of the National ID program especially in the UIN infrastructure. The UIN database will be stored in a dispersed manner using the existing infrastructures of data servers. Enrollment of the residents will be computerized, and information exchange between Regional Repositories and the Central System will be over a network. Authentication of the resident will also be online.
The strategy on technology considers a range of dimensions, including cost, capacity, interoperability, usage, security, and long term viability.
The digital identification system includes the following main components:
- The UIN Central Database
- The Biometric System
- The Enrollment Client
- Electronic Credentials
- The Network
- The Security Design as well as
- The Administration System which will help to administer the UIDAI’s operations
The overall functional architecture is as follows:
